• Contact Your Representative

Representative democracy is great, but sometimes as a citizen you want your voice to be heard inbetween elections. One way to do that is to contact your representative. Should you want to do that, here is some advice:

    1. First, identify the right representative.

The right representative depends on the issue you want to reach out about.

For local issues, your mayor, governor can be appropriate. You will find their contact on your state’s website. For instance, if you’re trying to reach out the governor of North Dakota, you can go on nd.gov and from there follow a couple links to reach https://www.governor.nd.gov/ where you will find a phone and fax number at the bottom of the page.

For federal purposes, you are represented by two senators determined by the state you reside in, and by a representative based on the congressional district you live in (if you are not in a State, you are represented by a non-voting delegate in the House of Representatives). You can find your senators on the senator list, and your representatives on the House website.

    2. Decide how you want to contact them

One of the best way to contact your representative is through a phone call. It’s very hard for them to ignore a phone call.

If you want to take your time to elaborate your thoughts or are uncomfortable calling, written form can be more appropriate. In this case, your options are email, fax and snail mail.

It seems that the more effort you put in, the more likely your demand will be considered:

The amount of work you put into your letter also counts. Snail mail gets considered over FAXes which get considered over emails. Killing trees matter.

    3. Write your letter

Explain why you are contacting your representative in a few short paragraphs. Explain who you are and why you support or oppose the bill. Always keep the tone polite, even if you disagree with your representative’s current position. You should be clear, concise and positive. Make sure you have a good knowledge of the subject and also of the representative you are trying to contact. Knowing their voting history can make a difference.

    4. Send your fax

If you decide that faxing is the easiest solution for you, you can use Genius Scan to scan your mail and Genius Fax to send it.

  • Genius Scan 4.1 "Winter Edition"

    Genius Scan Winter Edition

Winter has arrived in Paris, the grizzlies don’t hibernate, but work in their den. We’re happy to release Genius Scan 4.1, our Winter Edition.

    The new tags screen

The tagging system we released in Genius Scan 4.0 was visually beautiful, but lacked some convenience. Genius Scan Winter Edition addresses this with the following improvements:

    • A new tag screen to filter or edit the tags of a document. The screen is revealed by tapping on the “tags” icon at the top right of the screen. It displays your tags in a vertical fashion so that it’s easy to see a lot of tags simultaneously, as well as quickly scrolling to the desired tag with the alphabetical shortcuts to the right of the screen.
    • If your main screen is filtered by tags and you scan a new document, the new document will automatically get the new tags. This is super convenient on a trip to automatically tag all your receipts with the “Disneyland 2016 Business Trip” for instance.
    • You can rename and delete your tags: in the tag screen, tap on the Edit button at the top left of the screen; tap on any tag to edit it.
    • When you type a tag in the search bar, the keyboard will have the list of your most used tags above the keyboard for quick access.

If you’re a lucky owner of an iPad Pro, Genius Scan will resize properly on your giant screen.

If you’re not the lucky owner of an iPad Pro (you’re not alone), we’ve added full support for Split View which means that you can use Genius Scan while multitasking:

    The split view

We also wanted this update to feel more comfy (for the winter…) so we took advantage of several iOS features that make the iOS experience better:

    • Peek and pop your documents: you can just apply a force touch on any document or document page to see a quick preview with some quick actions.
    • On your shiny new iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, you will receive elegant, discreet haptic feedback when doing a couple actions in Genius Scan (selection, success or failure notification, document detection).

We hope you’ll enjoy this update. We are looking forward to your comments, please do email us!

  • Genius Scan 4

There are better ways to spend time in life than to do paperwork. We designed the latest update of Genius Scan with this perspective in mind and we are excited to make it available to you today, for both iOS and Android.

About 6 years ago, we launched the first version of Genius Scan which made life easier for millions of you. No need to own a scanner anymore, no need to walk to the copier in the office anymore, no need to go back to the office after a business trip to scan important documents. The scanner is in your pocket.

Today, we take it a step further by making scanning documents twice as fast!

    The new scan screen

We achieved that by reinventing the scan flow:

    • A Batch Mode lets you digitize several pages in a row, removing the multiple steps required to save each page individually to a document. The batch mode also lets you import multiple photos from the gallery!
    • The accuracy of our proprietary Document Detection Technology at the core of Genius Scan has been improved so that it detects the user’s document in 90% of the cases; this means that you don’t have to manually edit the detected document anymore.
    • The Document Detection has been made 3x faster: you can now see in real-time if the document has been accurately detected.
    • The Magic Mode automatically snaps the photo for you without manual intervention as soon as the document has been detected.

Genius Scan 4 will save about 25 years of humanity’s time each year!

Given how many documents are scanned with Genius Scan, these changes will save more than two years of people’s life every month! Obviously, we love scanning but there are better things in life to do!

In every way, Genius Scan 4 is better than ever:

Genius Scan keeps the clean look you love, but the user interface has been refreshed for faster access to most features.

    Scan Editing

Previously, Genius Scan would only let you modify your scans right after snapping the photo. That’s a thing of the past now: you can change the cropping area and the enhancement applied to your scan at any time.

    Improved Tagging

Adding a tag is much faster and requires less taps. You can now filter your documents with multiple tags (eg. “expenses” and “travel”) in the main search field. No need to open the side menu anymore.

    Powerful Smart Document Names

That’s a feature for power user, but you might be one without knowing it. Smart Document Names let you name your documents with flexibility.

You can now create multiple smart document names and you will choose which one to apply when saving. Patterns can be such as [date]-Expenses or [latitude]-[longitude]-measurement.

Smart Document Names can include a prompt when saving the document. Say you scan a document for a customer, you can use a [customer name prompt]-file smart name, and when you save the document you will be able to enter the customer name in the text field.

    Upload History [iOS]

The Upload History is now directly accessible from the main screen. It lets you access your previous exports even if you hadn’t saved the scans in Genius Scan.

    • Auto-Upload can be turned on over 3G in the settings.
    • Added support for shared folders in OneDrive.
    • Per page print format (now the A4/Letter/Legal/etc. settings apply to each page independently and not to the entire document).
    • Wifi Sharing accessible in the Upload History panel.
    • Page orientation is now automatically detected from the aspect ratio of your scan, so the settings for page orientation has been removed.

A new build would not be a new build without bug fixes. While Genius Scan 3 was already rock solid, we’ve fixed dozens of small bugs and annoyances.

We are also excited to announce that Genius Scan for iOS and Android are now on par feature-wise though each of the two apps has been carefully crafted for its platform.

All in all, we are tremendously excited about Genius Scan 4, the new opportunities it opens and particularly the time it’s going to save for our users. We are looking forward to your feedback, please do email us!
